Mrs. by ,
I entered La Bella Nials and Spa salon while shopping with my 3-year-old daughter at Oakland Mall and asked for the price of removing old shellac and applying a new one. The lady that sits at the front (and did my nails) told me it is $21, $3 to remove + $18 for shellac. I decided to do that. I placed my name and request on the sign-up sheet and asked to pay in advance. Her response was: no, you pay at the end. In the process of doing my nails and trying to keep my active 3-year-old entertained, the manicurist asked where I did my nails last. I confessed that I did them in Europe for only $10 and they have lasted me for over 3 weeks. She asked about whether I knew what they used and I explained that I didn't have a choice, I had just asked for shellac. While trying to calm my restless child, the manicurist brought two powders in front of me and asked: which one? I looked at both choices confused and said, umm pink??? The process lasted a lot longer than expected and I was running late for my birthday celebration, not to mention my daughter was overly tired by now. When done, I asked how much I owe and the response was $49. I was dismayed by this answer and said: what do you mean, you told me it costs $21. It says so behind you? She said, no you got powder, that's an extra cost plus it takes more time. I became furious because not only have I tortured my daughter longer than I needed to, but I'm being asked to pay a lot more than they quoted me, not to mention that I now was late for my party. I felt cheated, betrayed and embarrassed in front of other clients. She claimed I should have known powder costs more. Considering I do my own nails 99.9% of the time, I was completely unaware of the process. I told them “I'm not paying for more than what you quoted me. If you must take the powder out, do so”. She said “OK, I’ll take it out”. I set there in tears not knowing if that was a good decision. She stripped off many layers off my nails, so much that I was in pain and had to stop before she was done. I was still asked to pay $12. They lost a potential monthly customer as I will never step foot on their door again. I want people to be aware of such sneaky charges, and the way they up-sell their services in such a dishonest way. They caused me much physical and emotional pain, plus charged me for an incomplete service. My nails have since been painfully breaking in every direction, as I am sure the manicurist stripped them deeper than she needed to. Her greed caused me pain, distress and humiliation.
