Tea Leaf Market - Schaumburg, Illinois IL 60173 - Woodfield Mall

I recently got into tea for pain management on my elbow replacement, found this tea shop in Woodfield Mall and the owners were very informative and directed me to the right tea. Being new to the loose leaf teas I came back and met with Sam and he stocked me up with proper storage and brewing equipment! My wife and I love them!

So, I checked out this tea shop while picking up a Macy's order this afternoon. I had some time to kill, and love loose leaf tea, but it's extremely hard to find shops that carry it. My favorite place is in Chicago, but I rarely fight traffic to go there now that I live in the burbs. I was excited to check out a place close to home. They have a huge selection of teas that smell amazing. They claim they are all organic, not sure if this is true, but I certainly hope so, after today's experience. I chatted with a woman working there who was very friendly and helpful, but their prices were way steep compared to the places I've shopped in Chicago. But okay, it's not as popular out here, so I'm paying for convenience. I decided on their 3 chamber tin to try a few teas. She estimated it at $35. I was comfortable with that. Then an older man came out, who I assume to be the owner. He was nice, but definitely pushing for the upsell. He offers to pack my tins fuller (I guess they normally don't?), and give me a good price. I naively thought he was being nice as I'm a new customer, and obviously knowledgeable about teas and could easily become a regular customer. So he packs everything up, and rings me out for $80. I don't even know what to say. I express to him that that was not the price I had in mind for tea, and he insisted he gave me more than double the normal amount. So they are normally only filling their tins half way??? Everything was done so quickly, I took the loss instead of causing a scene and demanding a refund. I've never paid so much for tea in my life, other than ceremonial grade teas in highly specialized shops. On rare occasions. I haven't gotten a chance to sample the tea yet, but the bait and switch leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully the tea is amazing so I don't end up feeling like a total sucker. This may be a cool place to check out but get your pricing nailed down, and don't accept any "special deals".
